| Yes, this is a picture of the Trojan horse. Not the one that was used in the war, but a similar. I guess many wonder why all those backdoors and harmful programs are called "Trojan horses". Well, first of all let's take a look at the history. The Trojan horse was an instrument of war, used by the Greeks to gain access to the city of Troy. The horse, which was made of wood and had a hollow belly, was given to the Trojans as an offering of peace. At night, when the Trojans were drunk, celebrating their victory, the Greeks inside the horse unsealed the belly, climbed down and killed the sentries and opened up all the city gates. After that, the city was free to attack and the Greeks went inside, killed and damaged everything. Everybody died except from those who were kept in bondage. | ![]() |
A trojan is a program that makes it possible for other people to control your machine
in many different ways. Most of the trojans are backdoors. If you are infected with
Back Orifice for example, your computer runs a server, making it possible for anyone
to connect to your machine, if he/she has got the client. Other words: remote control.
The most common trojans are Netbus and Back Orifice (BO). You can read a lot of them
- history, function and removal - if you click the links below.
